American Standard Home Additions & ADU: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

If you’re planning a home addition or ADU in Fort Worth and want American Standard fixtures, plumbing, and HVAC systems integrated into the new space, the installed cost typically runs $45,000 to $130,000 depending on square footage, foundation work, and finish level. We handle the full build – framing, rough-in, drywall, tile, and the American Standard product installation that makes the addition feel like it was always part of the house. Most Fort Worth homeowners call us after they’ve tried to patch an undersized addition or a poorly built ADU and realized the plumbing, electrical, or structural work needs a complete redo.

The most common discovery point? You add a bathroom or kitchenette to an ADU, and the water pressure drops, the floor slopes, or the HVAC can’t keep up with a Texas August. That’s usually when an American Standard part gets blamed – when the real issue is the rough-in work behind it. We fix both.

Which American Standard Models This Applies To

American Standard makes hundreds of fixture and system models, and the compatibility question matters before you buy an addition’s worth of product. Here’s what we know from installing them across Fort Worth:

  • Champion and Cadet toilet lines: These are the two most common American Standard toilets we rough-in for additions and ADUs. The Champion uses a 4-inch flush valve, the Cadet a 3-inch. If you’re moving an existing toilet from your main house to the ADU, measure the rough-in distance – most are 12 inches, but some Fort Worth homes built before 1990 have 10 or 14 inch rough-ins that will not work without moving the flange.
  • Colony and Portsmouth faucet lines: Both come in widespread and centerset configurations. The centerset needs a 4-inch spread, the widespread needs 8 to 16 inches. This matters when you’re drilling a new vanity top.
  • Evolution and Relay shower systems: These are pressure-balanced valves with specific rough-in depths. If the wall is framed too shallow, the trim plate won’t seat flush. We see this on garage conversions where every inch counts.

For OEM vs aftermarket: American Standard parts are generally worth the OEM price for the ceramic disc cartridges and flush valves – aftermarket copies often fail within a year. But for supply lines, p-traps, and angle stops, a quality aftermarket brand like BrassCraft or Fluidmaster works fine. We won’t upsell you into OEM where it doesn’t matter, and we won’t cheap out where it does.

Signs Your American Standard Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

  • Low water pressure in the new bathroom when the main house is fine. Usually means the addition was plumbed with undersized supply lines, often 1/2 inch PEX where 3/4 inch was needed for the run length. American Standard fixtures need consistent pressure to perform.
  • Toilet rocks or the floor feels soft around the flange. A leaking wax ring or a subfloor that wasn’t properly prepped before tile. In Fort Worth’s clay soil, slab additions can shift enough to crack a flange within the first two years if the slab wasn’t engineered right.
  • Drywall cracks at the seam where the addition meets the original structure. This is a settling or framing issue, not a cosmetic one. The addition is moving independently of the house. Left alone, it pulls plumbing and electrical connections out of alignment.
  • HVAC can’t hold temperature in the new space. The system wasn’t sized for the added square footage, or the ductwork was run improperly. American Standard HVAC equipment is efficient, but it can’t overcome bad duct design.
  • Water heater struggles when both the main house and ADU run showers. The existing water heater was never upsized for the demand. A Fort Worth ADU with a full bath usually needs its own dedicated water heater, not a shared unit.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we quote in Fort Worth, and the number you approve is the number you pay – no change orders, no surprise invoices:

Scope Installed Price Range
Full home addition (framing, rough-in, finishes, American Standard fixtures) $45,000 – $130,000
ADU construction (detached, full bath + kitchenette) $90,000 – $220,000
Garage conversion to living space $30,000 – $80,000
American Standard plumbing rough-in for a new bathroom $4,500 – $12,000
American Standard fixture package (toilet, vanity faucet, shower valve, shower trim) $2,500 – $6,500

What drives the spread: square footage, foundation type (pier-and-beam additions run cheaper than slab work in Fort Worth’s expansive clay), ceiling height, and finish level. A three-piece bathroom with a fiberglass surround costs far less than a tiled walk-in shower with a custom glass enclosure. We pull permits on every addition and ADU, pass inspections, and our work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise – if it’s not right, we make it right, in writing.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely do a few things yourself: check the water pressure at an outdoor spigot with a $15 gauge from any Fort Worth hardware store, inspect under sinks for slow drips, and verify your fixtures are American Standard by reading the stamp on the underside of the tank lid or the base of the faucet. That’s information we’ll use when we quote.

What you should not DIY: any structural framing, gas line work, electrical panel upgrades, or slab foundation repairs. A home addition or ADU in Fort Worth requires permits and inspections, and the city will flag unpermitted work when you try to sell. We’ve torn out enough DIY additions to know they cost more to fix than they would have cost to build right the first time. If you’re unsure whether your addition or ADU is safe, call us at (682) 841-6652 and we’ll walk the site with you.
