CertainTeed Windows & Doors: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
We stock and install CertainTeed-compatible window and door parts across Fort Worth, with most hardware swaps running $150 – $450 installed and full window replacements landing between $450 and $1,100 per window depending on size and glass package. If you’ve got a window that won’t stay up, a door that drags on the threshold, or sash hardware that snapped, we can usually match the part to your series and have it working the same visit. Most Fort Worth homeowners discover a problem the same way: a crank starts grinding, a lock stops catching, or a sliding door suddenly feels like it weighs three hundred pounds.
We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with CertainTeed, which means we carry OEM-spec parts and quality aftermarket equivalents without being tied to one distributor’s stock. Luca Romano has been swinging hammers for twenty years, and the crew keeps a running inventory of the CertainTeed parts that fail most in North Texas heat.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

CertainTeed built its window and door reputation on solid mid-range vinyl lines, and the parts follow the series. The big ones we work on in Fort Worth: Bryn Mawr II, New Castle, New Castle IV, Somerton, and the later North Starr and Winchester lines. If you’ve got an original CertainTeed window from the 90s or early 2000s, you almost certainly have one of these.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha that trips people up: CertainTeed changed its balance shoe design between the Bryn Mawr II and New Castle IV generations. An old balance shoe won’t seat in a newer jamb, and vice versa. The part looks nearly identical from three feet away, but the depth and clip profile differ by about 1/16 inch. If you force it, you’ll crack the shoe or shave the jamb liner. We match parts by the manufacturing sticker on the sash or the stamping on the frame corner, not by eyeballing a photo. When the sticker’s faded, which is most of the time in Texas sun, we pull the sash and measure the balance channel and shoe profile directly.
Aftermarket manufacturers like Prime-Line and SWISCO make solid equivalents for CertainTeed parts, often at half the OEM price. Our rule: for balancers, shoes, and pivot bars we use aftermarket when the spec matches exactly. For locks, keepers, and weatherstripping, we prefer OEM-spec because the tolerances and finish matter more.

Signs Your CertainTeed Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Window won’t stay open, or slams shut when you let go. The balance shoe or spiral balance is worn out. Vinyl windows in Fort Worth get hammered by heat cycling, and the plastic shoe embrittles over about 10-15 years. Once a tooth on the shoe shears off, the window loses its hold.
- Crank handle spins but the window barely moves. On casement windows, this means the crank mechanism’s gear stripped, or the operator arm bent. We see it most on west-facing windows in Fort Worth where the afternoon sun cooks the hardware and the homeowner cranks against a heat-swollen sash.
- Sliding door drags, grinds, or jumps off the track. The roller assembly is shot. CertainTeed patio doors use twin roller cartridges, and the nylon wheels flatten over time, especially if the door’s been carrying dirt or pet hair down the track. A flattened roller carves a groove into the aluminum and then the whole door binds.
- Lock or latch no longer lines up with the keeper. The sash shifted, or the lock’s tailpiece broke. CertainTeed locks are cast zinc, and the tailpiece is the weak point. We replace the whole lock assembly rather than trying to re-tap a stripped tailpiece.
- Draft or visible daylight at the bottom or side of a closed window. Weatherstripping compressed or the sash is no longer square in the frame. Sometimes it’s just worn pile, but often the frame itself has moved as the Fort Worth slab soil shifts through wet-dry cycles.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Worth, expect to pay $150 – $450 installed for most CertainTeed hardware repairs: balance shoes, spiral balances, crank operators, roller carts, and lock sets. If the sash itself is fogged or cracked and you’re replacing the insulated glass unit, that’s typically $250 – $600 per sash depending on size and low-E coating. Full window replacement in Fort Worth runs $450 – $1,100 per window installed, which lines up with standard window replacement pricing of $4,500 – $15,000 for a whole-house job.
What drives the price range on parts? Sash size, series generation, and whether we can use an aftermarket part or need OEM-spec. A two-wide balance shoe set on a Bryn Mawr II costs less than a New Castle IV spiral balance because of the hardware design. Every quote is a written line-item price before work starts, so you’ll see the part cost and the labor broken out separately. The work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the part fails because we installed it wrong, we come back and fix it. No argument, no invoice.

AfterDIY or Call Us?
For windows, here’s the honest split. You can safely check whether the problem is just a loose set screw on a crank handle, or debris in a door track that a vacuum can pull out. Cleaning a patio door track and clearing a clogged weep hole are genuinely doable for anyone.
Where DIY goes wrong is inside the window jamb. Spiral balances are under tension, and when a homeowner pulls one out with a screwdriver and the spring unwinds, that’s a hand injury and a bent balance. The shoe, spring, and pivot bar all work as one unit, and if you install a new shoe into a worn channel, you’ll hear the window grind and the new part will fail in six months. Doors are similar: pulling a sliding door off its track solo is how glazing shatters and frames get dinged. If you’ve already got the part in your hand and the window is open on the counter, call us at (682) 841-6652. We’ll tell you straight if it’s worth installing or if you’ve got the wrong part for your series.
FAQs

Most CertainTeed vinyl window hardware lasts 10 – 15 years in Fort Worth’s climate, with west-facing windows failing fastest because sustained afternoon heat makes the nylon and plastic components brittle. Balance shoes and roller carts are almost always the first to go.
For hardware like shoes, balances, cranks, and rollers, replacement is the repair. These components are cast or molded as single units, and once a tooth, gear, or axle breaks, there’s no field repair that will hold. For sashes with failed seals, we can replace the insulated glass unit without swapping the whole window frame. Call (682) 841-6652 and we’ll tell you which parts are worth fixing and which should be replaced.
A standard balance shoe, spiral balance, or lock replacement takes 30 – 60 minutes per sash once we’re on site. A sliding door roller replacement runs about 45 – 90 minutes because we have to pull the door, clean the track, and re-set the rollers. Full window replacement, from teardown to trim, typically takes half a day for a single window or a day for three to five.
We keep balance shoes, spiral balances, pivot bars, crank operators, and roller carts on the truck for the most common CertainTeed series, including Bryn Mawr II and New Castle IV. For less common parts or specific sash sizes, we source from our Fort Worth suppliers and usually have the part in hand within one to two business days. The work talks, we just back it up.
