IKO Bathroom Remodeling: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
If you’ve got an IKO bathroom product that’s failed or is on its way out, a full IKO-compatible bathroom remodel in Fort Worth typically runs $9,000 to $28,000 installed, depending on the size of the space, the materials you choose, and how much plumbing or structural work is involved. We stock IKO-compatible components and can usually begin your project within a week of the walkthrough. Most homeowners discover the problem the same way: water staining on the ceiling below, a cracked pan, or tile that’s started to lift and never quite dries out anymore.
We’re an independent Fort Worth remodeling contractor, not an IKO dealer. That’s good news for you. It means we can source the exact IKO component you need or a quality aftermarket equivalent without being tied to one distributor’s inventory or pricing. Luca Romano and our crew have torn out enough failed bathroom installations across Fort Worth to know what holds up in Texas heat and humidity, and what doesn’t.
Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO manufactures primarily roofing and waterproofing products, but their bathroom product line includes shower pans, waterproof membranes, and backer board systems that show up in Fort Worth homes more often than you’d think. The compatibility question comes down to which generation of IKO waterproofing you’re working with. Older IKO shower pan installations used a PVC liner system with a clamping drain. Newer IKO-compatible installs use a bonded sheet membrane or liquid membrane over a sloped mortar bed. These are not interchangeable without changing the drain assembly.
Here’s the gotcha: if your shower was built with an IKO PVC liner, you can’t simply patch it with a sheet membrane and expect it to hold. The water path, the drain connection, and the wall-to-pan transition are all different. A patch that looks fine for six months can fail catastrophically after a full Texas summer of heat cycling. We identify what you have by pulling the drain cover and checking for a visible liner beneath the mortar bed, then matching the correct IKO-spec component or a proven aftermarket equivalent with the same thickness and drainage characteristics.
For most Fort Worth homeowners, the OEM-versus-aftermarket decision comes down to warranty and availability. IKO OEM parts carry manufacturer backing but can take weeks to source. Quality aftermarket waterproofing from brands we stock on the shelf – like Schluter KERDI or similar bonded membranes – often installs faster and carries its own manufacturer warranty. We’ll show you both options with written pricing before any work starts.

Signs Your IKO Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Water staining on the ceiling below the bathroom. This is almost always a pan or liner failure. Water travels through the mortar bed, finds a weak point in the liner, and drips onto whatever’s below. By the time you see the stain, the leak has been active for weeks or months.
- Loose or lifting tiles near the drain. When an IKO liner fails, water saturates the mortar bed. The mortar breaks down, and tiles lose their bond. If tiles sound hollow when tapped or shift underfoot, the waterproofing has already failed.
- A mildew smell that won’t go away. Standing water trapped under the tile feeds mold and mildew. Cleaning the surface won’t touch it because the problem is underneath. That smell is a sign of active water damage inside the assembly.
- Cracked grout or caulk at the pan-to-wall transition. This seam is where movement and water meet. Grout cracks, caulk separates, and water gets behind the tile. It’s the most common entry point we find during demo on Fort Worth bathroom remodels.
- Spongy or flexing spots in the shower floor. A properly built IKO shower pan is rock solid. If it flexes, the mortar bed is failing or was never sloped correctly. Water is pooling instead of draining, and the assembly is actively deteriorating.

DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: pull the drain cover and look for standing water in the pan, press on tiles to check for movement, and look for water stains on the ceiling below. That tells you whether you have a problem and roughly where it is. What you should not do is attempt to remove tile, cut into the pan, or patch a liner yourself. A failed waterproofing assembly hidden behind tile requires full demolition to properly diagnose. Half-measures fail again, and you pay twice.
Also worth saying straight: bathroom remodeling involves plumbing, electrical, and structural work. In Fort Worth, permits are required for plumbing changes, and the work has to pass inspection. A botched shower pan leak can rot floor joists and cost you five times the original repair. This is not a weekend project. Call us at (682) 841-6652 and we’ll do a walkthrough, find the actual failure, and hand you a written price. The work talks. We just back it up.
FAQs

In the Fort Worth climate, a properly installed IKO or IKO-equivalent shower pan typically lasts 15 to 25 years. Texas heat accelerates material breakdown, and homes with hard water from the Trinity River aquifer can shorten that lifespan. If your pan is over 15 years old and showing any of the failure signs above, replacement is the smarter money. Call (682) 841-6652 for a walkthrough and exact quote.
Sometimes but rarely. If the failure is isolated to a valve or fixture, we can swap that without touching the tile. If the waterproofing membrane has failed, there is no way to access it without removing the tile and mortar bed. By the time you can see the leak, the damage underneath usually requires a full pan replacement. We’ll tell you which situation you have during the walkthrough, with written pricing either way.
A standard bathroom remodel in Fort Worth takes 2 to 4 weeks from demo to final inspection. Larger primary baths with custom tile work can run 5 to 6 weeks. We schedule permits before demolition starts, so there’s no waiting period after the walls come down. You’ll get photo updates as the job progresses, and a live arrival time before every visit.
We stock the most common IKO-compatible drain assemblies, waterproofing membranes, and backer boards on our trucks, so we’re not waiting on a distributor when demo reveals the full scope. Less common components take 3 to 5 business days to source. We’ll tell you upfront what’s in stock and what needs to be ordered. Other material brands we regularly stock and install include KraftMaid cabinets, Cambria and Silestone countertops, and Kohler and Toto fixtures.
Ready to find out what’s actually going on behind your tile? Call (682) 841-6652 and schedule a free walkthrough. We’ll give you a written price before any work starts, so you know exactly what the job costs and when we’ll be there. No change orders, no ghosting, no surprises at the invoice.
