Techo-Bloc Home Additions & ADU: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
If you’re planning a home addition or ADU in Fort Worth and want Techo-Bloc pavers, walls, or steps integrated into the build, we handle the full scope: foundation to framing to the final paver course. Installed pricing for a home addition lands between $45,000 and $130,000, while an ADU runs $90,000 to $220,000 depending on size, utilities, and the Techo-Bloc features you choose. Most owners call us after a different contractor quoted the job without accounting for how Techo-Bloc products need specific base prep and edge restraint in North Texas clay soil. That’s the kind of detail that separates a patio that still looks flat in five years from one that’s heaved and cracked.
Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To
Techo-Bloc makes a wide range of paving stones and modular walls, and not all of them suit a Fort Worth addition or ADU the same way. We work most often with the Blu 60 and Blu 80 paver lines for driveways and walkways around new additions, Semma and Para pavers for patios and outdoor living spaces, and Mini-Creta or Raffinato walls when the addition calls for a raised planter or a retaining edge. Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: Techo-Bloc pavers are thicker than big-box concrete pavers, usually 60mm or 80mm, which means the base excavation has to go deeper. A crew that treats them like standard 50mm pavers will end up with a surface that sits too high against your new foundation or door threshold. We verify the paver thickness from the label on the pallet before we cut any grade. For walls, the Mini-Creta system has a rear lip that locks courses together, so you can’t mix it with a flat-back block from another Techo-Bloc line and expect it to hold. We always confirm the exact series number from your original order or a leftover pallet sticker before matching.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Pavers rocking underfoot near the new foundation. The base was under-compacted or the edge restraint was skipped, and the pavers are shifting. In Fort Worth’s clay soil, this shows up within the first two wet-dry seasons.
- Water pooling against the addition’s slab. That usually means the final grade was set without accounting for Techo-Bloc’s 3% minimum slope requirement. Water against a slab edge will find its way in eventually.
- Wall blocks leaning or separating at the top course. Mini-Creta and Raffinato walls need geogrid reinforcement above certain heights. If the original installer skipped it, the wall starts to lean forward and the lip on the block is the first thing to shear.
- Paver color fading unevenly. Techo-Bloc pavers are color-through, so this is usually a sign someone power-washed too aggressively or used a sealer that didn’t bond with the paver’s factory finish. It’s cosmetic, but it points to a bigger issue: whoever did the install didn’t understand the product.
- Joint sand washing out repeatedly. If polymeric sand keeps disappearing from the joints, water is moving under the pavers. On an addition or ADU, that water is working its way toward your foundation.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a full home addition in Fort Worth with Techo-Bloc hardscape integrated into the design, plan on $45,000 to $130,000. An ADU runs $90,000 to $220,000 based on square footage, whether you need a separate meter, and the amount of site work the lot requires. Where Techo-Bloc enters the picture, a paver patio or walkway around the new structure typically adds $3,500 to $11,000 for the hardscape itself. Our written price includes the hardscape prep, base material, Tamper-mounted compaction, edge restraint, and the pavers or wall block set to the manufacturer’s specs. You approve that number before we move a single shovel. The workmanship on the Techo-Bloc portion carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the pavers settle, shift, or the joints fail within a year, we return and fix it. No argument, no invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: walk the perimeter of the addition and look for pavers that have pulled away from the foundation edge; note any areas where water stands for more than an hour after rain; and look at the wall courses from a distance to see if the top line sags or waves. What you shouldn’t do is pull up pavers and re-set them yourself. Techo-Bloc pavers are heavy, the base prep is the whole job, and a half-done re-set on Fort Worth clay will fail again within a season. Worse, if you try to remove and rebuild a retaining wall without understanding the geogrid placement, the wall can let go. That’s not a paver problem anymore; that’s a structural problem next to a foundation you just spent six figures on. Call (682) 841-6652 and we’ll put eyes on it. The estimate is free, and you’ll get a written number, not a “we’ll see how it goes.”
FAQs

The pavers themselves are rated for 25+ years of structural life, but the installation is what determines whether you get that. Done right with a compacted aggregate base and proper edge restraint, a Techo-Bloc patio or walkway in Fort Worth stays flat for two decades or more. Done wrong, you’ll see settling within three years. That’s why our hardscape installations come with the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. Call (682) 841-6652 to get a price for your specific addition or ADU plans.
Yes, in most cases. If the base is still sound but a section of pavers has settled, we can lift the affected area, re-grade the base, and re-set the pavers without tearing out the whole patio. If the edge restraint failed or the base was never compacted, the repair usually means re-doing the base under the affected section. You’ll know exactly which one you need before we start, because the price is in writing. Call (682) 841-6652 for an assessment.
For a typical patio or walkway around a new addition in Fort Worth, the hardscape portion takes three to five working days from excavation to final joint sand. If retaining walls are involved, add a day or two per wall course depending on height and geogrid requirements. We schedule the hardscape so it doesn’t hold up your addition’s inspection clock. Call (682) 841-6652 to talk through your timeline and get a written estimate.
We keep a limited inventory of the Techo-Bloc lines we install most in Fort Worth, including Blu 60 and Mini-Creta, but most jobs require a pallet order matched to your exact series and color. Since Techo-Bloc color lots can vary slightly between production runs, we order all pavers for a single addition from the same lot so the color stays consistent across the entire hardscape surface. That’s a small detail that makes a big visual difference. For matching or repair work, we can source the specific block from Techo-Bloc’s current catalog if your original series is still in production. Call (682) 841-6652 and we’ll check availability for your exact product.
Luca Romano started Sawyer Remodel Fort Worth after learning the trade hands-on at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and spending two decades framing, tiling, and building everything from tract homes to custom additions. He still walks every job himself, because he’s seen too many remodels go sideways when the owner stops showing up. The work talks. We just back it up. When you call (682) 841-6652, you’ll get a real person, a straight answer, and a written price before anything gets torn up. We’re an independent Fort Worth contractor, not affiliated with Techo-Bloc, and we don’t subcontract our hardscape work out to crews we wouldn’t trust on our own houses.
