Bufftech Driveway & Pavers: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
If you have a Bufftech driveway or paver hardscape and one section has shifted, cracked, or settled, the fix almost always comes down to the base and edge restraints, not the paver itself. In Fort Worth, we typically see owners discover the problem after a heavy rain, when water pools in a low spot, or when a paver rocks underfoot near the driveway apron. A replacement section, with re-compacted base and new sand, runs roughly $3,500 to $11,000 installed depending on square footage and access. That’s the honest range before anyone sets foot on your property.
Bufftech pavers are concrete interlocking units, and they fail at the system level before the paver itself gives out. The pavers are tough. What breaks down first is what’s underneath them, and in Fort Worth’s clay-heavy soils, that happens faster than most homeowners expect.
Which Bufftech Models This Applies To

Bufftech’s lineup is built around a handful of shape families. The most common in Fort Worth driveways are the Holland stone, the 3-piece modular system, and the tumbled paver lines. Each has different minimum thickness specs. The Holland and modular patterns are typically 60mm (about 2 3/8 inches), and that’s the minimum you want for a vehicle-rated driveway. If someone installed 40mm pavers meant for a patio on a driveway, that’s a compatibility problem you’ll feel every time you pull in.
Identifying your exact Bufftech model matters less than most people think. What matters is the thickness, the joint spacing (which varies by shape family), and whether the pavers are square-edged or tumbled. Tumbled pavers have wider, softer joints. Square-edged Holland stones lock tighter. Both use the same polymeric sand, but the joint width changes how much sand you’ll need and how long it lasts. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question for replacement pavers: Bufftech color batches vary by production run. If you’re patching a five-year-old driveway, a brand-new paver of the same color name will not perfectly match. That’s not a defect. That’s UV exposure and batch variance. We’ll tell you that before you buy, because nobody else will.

Signs Your Bufftech Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- One paver rocks underfoot near the garage apron. The sand bed underneath has washed out from water tracking off the driveway slope. It starts as one loose paver and spreads outward like a bad tooth.
- Water pools in a shallow birdbath dip after rain. The base underneath has settled unevenly. Fort Worth’s clay soil expands and contracts with moisture, and a base that wasn’t compacted in lifts will not hold level over five or ten years.
- Edge pavers along the lawn have started to drift outward. The plastic edge restraint has failed or was never installed. Once the outside course moves, the entire field loses its interlock and joints start opening up.
- Polymeric sand turns to powder between the joints. It’s been more than three or four years since installation, or the sand was swept in dry. Poly sand needs water to activate, and once it’s gone, the pavers have nothing locking them side to side.
- A dark stain spreads across several pavers near the gutter downspout. That’s organic growth feeding on trapped moisture, which means water is not draining through or around the system. The base is saturated, and saturated bases move.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Bufftech driveway replacement in Fort Worth, plan on $7,000 to $18,000 installed. A smaller patio or walkway section runs $3,500 to $11,000. What moves the price is square footage, the condition of the existing base, and what we find when we pull the pavers up. If the original base was never compacted properly, we’re hauling out more material and rebuilding from the bottom, which is the right fix, not a patch.
The number we give you is the number you pay. Written, line-item, before any work starts. That includes removal of the failed section, new compacted base material, sand bedding, the pavers themselves, edge restraints, and fresh polymeric sand. We don’t do change orders, and we don’t come back asking for more after demo day. If the repair fails, we come back. That’s covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise on every job. That’s how Luca Romano has run Sawyer Remodel Fort Worth since day one.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely inspect your pavers. Walk the surface barefoot and feel for rockers. Check the edges. Look at the joints after rain. That tells you where the problem is. What you should not do is tear out pavers that carry vehicle weight without understanding the base. If you pull up the edge course, the interlock is gone, and the whole section can shift. Lifting pavers near a driveway that slopes toward the house, with the wrong regrade, sends water toward your foundation. That’s the expensive mistake. In Fort Worth, water against a slab is a structural problem, not a cosmetic one.
If the damage is a single walkway paver and you want to reset it, that’s a Saturday project. If it’s a driveway section that’s settled or the edges are spreading, call (682) 841-6652 and we’ll give you a straight answer and a written price. The work talks. We just back it up.
FAQs

The pavers themselves will last 25 to 40 years. The base, sand, and edge restraint underneath them will typically need attention in 10 to 15 years in Forth Worth’s expansive clay soil. Most driveway failures we see are base failures, not paver failures. Call (682) 841-6652 and we’ll tell you whether your pavers can be reused or if you need new ones.
Yes, if the settlement is limited and the base is still intact. We can lift the affected pavers, re-compact the base, add sand, and reset the section. If the base has washed out or the edge restraints are gone, a full section rebuild is the honest fix. We’ll show you both options and price both in writing before you choose.
Most section replacements take one to two days on site. A full driveway takes three to five days depending on access and how much base we’re removing. We’ll put the schedule in your written estimate so you know before work starts.
We source Bufftech pavers to match your existing color, thickness, and shape family, and we typically have common Fort Worth colorways available quickly through our local suppliers. We also carry compatible edge restraints, base material, and polymeric sand on our trucks so there’s less waiting.
If your Bufftech driveway in Fort Worth is showing its age, call (682) 841-6652 for a free estimate. We’ll walk the site, tell you what’s actually wrong, and hand you a written price before you commit to anything.
