James Hardie Roofing: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
We stock and install James Hardie-compatible roofing and siding parts across Fort Worth, with most trim, soffit, and fascia replacements running $400 to $1,800 installed. The part itself is usually $40 to $220, and a typical swap takes two to four hours once we’re on site. Most Fort Worth homeowners discover this the hard way: after a spring hailstorm, a cracked corner shows up near the roofline, or a soffit panel starts pulling loose after years of Texas heat cycling.
That moment is less confusing if you know what you’re looking at. James Hardie makes cement-based siding and trim that gets used at the roofline constantly in Fort Worth: fascia boards, soffit panels, and the trim that bridges siding to shingles. When one piece fails, the whole system usually needs attention, not just a patch.
Which James Hardie Models This Applies To

James Hardie’s roofing-adjacent product lines break down into three families. HardiePlank lap siding runs 5/16″ thick in 12-foot lengths, and the top course tucks right under the roofline. HardiePanel vertical siding is 7/16″ thick, usually 4×8 or 4×10 sheets, and it gets used on gable ends. HardieTrim boards are ¾” thick and ¾” or 1″ wide, and these are what most people mean when they talk about “James Hardie roofing” near the eaves: the boards that cap the fascia and frame the soffit.
Identifying your part is straightforward. Flip over a loose piece or check the back edge: Hardie stamps the series name (HZ5, HZ10) and usually a manufacturing date code. If you’re matching an older install, the HZ5 line is the modern replacement and colors match with the ColorPlus finish. One gotcha we see regularly in Fort Worth: original mid-2000s homes used HZ10 with a slightly different texture profile. You can’t mix HZ5 and HZ10 on the same visible plane without a visible seam. We match the original spec, not whatever is cheapest on the shelf.
OEM Hardie parts are always our recommendation for visible fascia and trim: the color match is factory-baked, not painted on. For soffit and hidden vented panels, quality aftermarket equivalents made from fiber cement or matching Hardie-compatible materials save 20 to 30% with no difference in weather performance. We stock Hardie trim, soffit, and flashing on the trucks that work Fort Worth, so most roofs we see don’t wait on shipped parts.

Signs Your James Hardie Roofing Is Failing
- Corner cracking at the fascia ends. Cement board is rigid, and Fort Worth’s winter-to-summer temperature swing means the fascia expands and contracts aggressively. Cracks almost always start at the mitered corners first.
- Soffit panels pulling loose or sagging. If the panels were face-nailed without proper spacing, heat cycles pop the nails out. You’ll see daylight gaps at the seams from the street.
- Swelling or flaking at the bottom edge. Hardie requires a minimum 6″ ground clearance and proper caulk joints at the roofline. When Fort Worth gutter overflow soaks the trim repeatedly, the bottom edge starts to absorb water and delaminate.
- Paint failure concentrated near roof valleys. Cement board holds paint well, but if the drip edge flashing was bent wrong during install, runoff saturates the same area every storm. Repainting alone is a band-aid.
- Gaps where trim meets shingles. After a decade of UV and wind, the caulk joint dries and separates. Water tracks behind the trim, and by the time you see the gap, the underlayment has usually taken damage.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Fort Worth homes, expect $400 to $1,800 installed depending on the amount of linear footage and which parts failed. A single 12-foot fascia board replacement with soffit repair runs $400 to $700. A full gable-end HardiePanel replacement with trim typically lands at $900 to $1,500. Whole-roofline fascia and soffit replacement on a 2,000-square-foot home runs $1,500 to $1,800.
Written line-item pricing is standard on every James Hardie job we quote in Fort Worth. You’ll see the exact part numbers, the footage, the labor hours, and the haul-away fee before we start. Workmanship is covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right, in writing, every time. The James Hardie material warranty applies separate from our install warranty. Small print rarely helps in this conversation: the price we write down is the price on the invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check three things yourself: whether the part is HZ5 or HZ10 (read the stamp), whether you have obvious cracking at the miters, and whether you have a drip edge in place at all. What you shouldn’t do is pull off fascia at height. Cement board is dense and heavy, a full 12-foot plank weighs over 30 pounds, and if a ladder takes one hit on a windy Fort Worth afternoon, you’re dealing with more than a siding invoice. Trim removal near roof edges also exposes the underlayment, and if you break the drip edge seal, you’ve created a leak where there wasn’t one before.
We’re not going to insist every job needs a crew. If you’re touched by the work and want to swap a single accessible piece, the material can be matched at the quote stage. But if the damage is roofline-high, hailstorm-driven, or involves more than one piece, call (682) 841-6652 and we’ll take a look with proper ladder setup and an actual written plan.
FAQs

In Fort Worth, properly installed James Hardie trim and soffit lasts 25 to 30 years, but the paint finish and caulk joints usually need attention around year 10 to 12. The cement board itself won’t rot, but weatherproofing and fasteners fail first in the North Texas heat and hail cycle. Call (682) 841-6652 and we’ll inspect the entire roofline, not just the one bad board.
Small cracks and chips can be patched with Hardie-approved sealant and color-matched paint when the damage is less than about six inches long. Full-height cracks, water swelling, or miter separation need board replacement. We’ll tell you which one you have and write the cheaper option first if it’s viable.
A single fascia board replacement takes one to two hours. Full roofline soffit and fascia replacement on a standard Fort Worth home is usually a one-day job, with harder gable geometry pushing it into a second morning. We schedule a live arrival time and send photo updates before and after, so you’ll know exactly when we’re on site and when we’re done.
Our Fort Worth crews carry standard Hardie trim, soffit panels, flashing, and HZ5/HZ10 color matches on the trucks. Uncommon widths or the ColorPlus finish in less-popular shades can take two to three days from the supply yard. Call (682) 841-6652 with your stamp code and we’ll tell you what’s stocked this week.
