Sterling Driveway & Pavers: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

Sterling driveway and paver parts are in stock at Sawyer Remodel Fort Worth, with most replacements installed same week for $150 to $900 depending on the component. The typical job lands between $400 and $700 when we’re replacing a section of pavers, resetting failed edging, or swapping a cracked border piece. Most Fort Worth homeowners call us after a paver sinks, shifts, or cracks along the driveway edge, usually right after a heavy rain or a brutal August heat stretch.

We’re the crew that shows up with the right replacement on the truck. Luca Romano walks every parts job himself before pricing it, because Sterling pavers from the mid-2000s don’t always match what’s on the shelf today. If you’ve got a failed paver or a crumbling driveway section, here’s exactly what to expect, what it costs, and whether you should touch it yourself.

Which Sterling Models This Applies To

Sterling’s driveway pavers came through several Fort Worth builds between roughly 2004 and 2016. The two most common lines we see are the standard interlocking concrete paver (4×8 inch, 60mm thick) and the larger format 6×9 inch unit used on wider driveway aprons. If you have the original paperwork, the model number is usually stamped on the underside of a spare paver, or on the pallet wrap from the original delivery.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: Sterling changed their paver mold in 2012, and the new profile is about 2mm taller than the old one. That sounds tiny, but if you mix old and new pavers side by side, you’ll feel the lip under your foot and trip hazards start showing up fast. We carry both profiles, and we match your existing pavers by measuring thickness with a caliper on site, not by guessing off a photo. For most driveways, quality aftermarket equivalents from Unilock or Belgard work fine and save 20 to 30 percent over chasing original Sterling stock. For a few of the larger 6×9 units, though, nothing aftermarket matches the edge bevel, so we source those from Sterling’s current distributor network.

Signs Your Sterling Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Sunken or low paver near the driveway edge. This is almost always a base failure. Fort Worth’s clay soil expands and contracts with our wet springs and dry summers, and when the base erodes, the paver drops. Adding sand on top won’t fix it, the base needs to be recompacted.
  • Cracked paver in a straight line across the driveway. That’s a load stress crack, usually from a heavy truck or an RV parked overnight. The paver itself survives tens of thousands of pounds, but a cracked unit means water gets in, freezes in rare cold snaps, and the crack spreads like a windshield chip.
  • Shifting or spreading along the outer edges. This is an edge restraint failure. The plastic or metal edging that held the pavers tight has flexed loose, and once one paver moves, the whole row follows. Fort Worth’s heat makes plastic edging brittle after about 8 years, so we recommend aluminum restraint on replacements.
  • White powdery residue on the paver surface. That’s efflorescence, and while it’s more cosmetic than structural, it’s the first sign water is wicking through the paver from below. Left alone, the moisture that causes it is the same moisture that washes out your sand base.
  • Paver wobbles when you step on it. Loose bedding sand underneath. It’s an easy reset if you catch it early, but every year it wobbles, that paver grinds against its neighbors and rounds off the edges. Once the edges are gone, spacing gets uneven and the whole section looks old.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Fort Worth driveways, here’s the breakdown on Sterling paver work. Resetting a few sunken pavers with fresh base runs $150 to $400. Replacing a single cracked or broken paver with a profile-matched unit is $75 to $200 including the part. Replacing a section of 10 to 20 pavers with new base, new sand, and recycled edging lands between $500 and $900. A full driveway paver replacement in Fort Worth runs $7,000 to $18,000, which is the range you’d expect for a complete tear-out and reinstallation.

Every quote includes the pavers, the base material, the sand, the labor, and haul-away of the old material. The written price you approve is the price you pay, no change orders when we find a soft spot in the base. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right, backed in writing. You don’t ask for that guarantee, it’s already on every job we do.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: look for standing water pooling against the paver, check if the edge restraint is visibly bent or popped loose, and note which pavers move when you step on them. Write down the thickness if you can see it on a loose unit. That information helps us price the job accurately over the phone.

What you shouldn’t do is pull pavers up and try to relevel them without compacting the base underneath. A hand tamp will not match the compaction of a plate compactor, and a paver that sits high or low after your fix becomes a trip hazard on your own driveway. If the failure is along a slope or against a garage apron, leave it alone entirely – water drainage issues there need the whole section evaluated, not just one paver reset. Call (682) 841-6652 and we’ll send someone out who’s done this a few hundred times.
