Wellborn Home Additions & ADU: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

If you’re planning a home addition or ADU in Fort Worth and want Wellborn cabinetry built into it, you’re looking at a total project cost of $45,000 to $130,000 for the addition itself, with Wellborn cabinet runs typically landing between $4,000 and $13,000 installed depending on linear footage and door style. Most owners discover the cabinet component fails first at the hinges, drawer glides, or door alignment points, usually after 8 to 12 years of daily use. The good news: we spec Wellborn for additions and ADUs throughout Fort Worth and can match existing cabinet lines for repairs or full replacements without making you rip out good framing.

What usually brings people to this page: you’re either planning an addition and pricing cabinets, or you already have Wellborn boxes and a door is sagging, a drawer is grinding, or the finish is separating at the seams where the Texas humidity cycle does its work. Either way, we can tell you exactly what it’ll cost before anything gets ordered.

Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn runs three main cabinet lines that show up in Fort Worth additions and ADUs: the Estate Series (full-overlay doors, soft-close standard, plywood box construction), the Select Series (mid-range, standard overlay, birch or maple faces), and the Premier Series (entry-level, often particleboard boxes with wood veneer doors). The compatibility gotcha most owners hit: Estate and Select doors are not interchangeable with Premier boxes because the hinge boring pattern and door thickness differ by 1/8 inch. Measure the door thickness before you order replacements. 3/4 inch means Estate or Select. 5/8 inch means Premier.

OEM parts from Wellborn are solid, but for hinges and glides you’re often better off with name-brand aftermarket hardware, Blum or Salice, which is what Wellborn uses anyway. We quote both and let you pick. We’re an independent Fort Worth contractor, not a Wellborn dealer, so we’re not locked into one catalog.

Signs Your Wellborn Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

  • Door sag that won’t adjust out. The hinge plate is pulling from the box or the hinge itself is worn past its adjustment range. If you can lift the door and feel play, the hinge is done.
  • Drawer slides that grind or drop on one side. Soft-close undermount slides lose their dampener first, then the ball bearings start shedding. You’ll hear it before you see it.
  • Finish peeling at the cabinet toe kick or around the sink base. This is the Fort Worth humidity cycle: hot, wet summers followed by dry winters. Particleboard boxes, common in Premier lines, absorb moisture and delaminate.
  • Doors that won’t close square anymore. The box itself has shifted, which happens when an addition settles on North Texas clay soil. The cabinets didn’t fail, the floor under them moved.
  • Soft-close stops working on one door only. The damper clip snapped. It’s a $12 part, but it takes 10 minutes to pull the hinge and swap it if you know the series.

Each of these has a fix, and the fix usually costs less than replacing the run. But the longer a failed hinge or slide stays in use, the more damage it does to the door bore and the box face, which is how a $40 repair becomes a $400 door replacement.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A small remodeled galley kitchen with cabinets to the ceiling

For cabinet-specific work inside a Wellborn addition or ADU in Fort Worth, here’s what you’re looking at:

  • Cabinet installation (new full run): $4,000 to $13,000 depending on linear feet and series
  • Single door replacement (matched Wellborn door, installed): $150 to $450
  • Hinge and glide replacement (per cabinet): $75 to $200
  • Full cabinet refacing with Wellborn doors: $7,000 to $15,000
  • Complete addition or ADU build with Wellborn cabinets included: $45,000 to $130,000

The range on the full build comes down to square footage, foundation work, plumbing scope for the ADU kitchen or bath, and which cabinet series you choose. Every quote includes parts and labor separated line by line, so you know what the boxes cost and what the install costs. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the workmanship in writing. If a door binds or a drawer fails within the year, we come back and fix it.

DIY or Call Us?

Cabinet hardware is one of the few things an owner can genuinely handle. If you have a Phillips head and 20 minutes, you can swap a Blum hinge or replace a damper clip on most Wellborn doors. The part numbers are stamped on the hinge arm. What you shouldn’t do: try to refinish delaminating veneer on a budget, hang new doors on a box that’s out of square, or reconfigure a drawer bank without taking the face frame into account. That’s how you end up with three doors that won’t close and a drawer that eats itself.

If you’re mid-project on a Fort Worth ADU and the cabinet layout isn’t working, or you’re staring at a sagging door and wondering how far the damage goes, call us at (682) 841-6652. Luca will talk you through what he’d do, and we’ll quote the whole thing in writing before a single tool comes off the truck.
