Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

If you’ve got Wellborn cabinetry in your Fort Worth kitchen that’s showing its age, we can match, replace, or rebuild around it. A full Wellborn kitchen remodel in Fort Worth typically runs $14,000 – $45,000 installed, depending on cabinet line, layout changes, and countertop selection. Most owners call us after a door hinge rips out of the face frame, a drawer glide snaps, or they’re just tired of living with a kitchen that fights them every morning.

We’re Sawyer Remodel Fort Worth, an independent remodeler. We’re not affiliated with Wellborn. What we are is a crew that’s pulled apart and rebuilt enough Wellborn kitchens across Tarrant County to know exactly what holds up, what fails first, and what’s worth paying for versus skipping. Luca Romano still walks every job himself, because he’s seen too many remodels go sideways when the owner stops showing up.

Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn doesn’t make one cabinet. They make roughly a dozen product lines across three tiers: Estate (full-custom, inset doors, furniture-grade), Premier (semi-custom, more finishes and mods), and Select (entry-level, frameless and framed options, fewer finish choices). The line name is on a sticker inside the drawer box or on the back of a door. If the sticker’s gone, measure the face frame width. Premier and Estate framed cabinets run 1½-inch face frames; some Select lines drop to 1¼-inch or skip the frame entirely on frameless boxes.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most Fort Worth owners hit: Wellborn changed hinge boring patterns across model years. Pre-2012 cabinets often used 35mm cup holes at different setback than current production, which means you can’t always slap a new soft-close hinge on an old door without re-boring or using adapter plates. We keep adapter plates on the truck for exactly this. For drawer glides, Wellborn mostly used Blum undermount slides on Premier and Estate and side-mount on older Select. Knowing which one you have before ordering saves you a week and a return trip. When it comes to OEM versus aftermarket, we use OEM Wellborn parts when the client wants exact match. For glides and hinges, Blum and Salice are the actual OEM manufacturers anyway, so a quality aftermarket equivalent is often the identical part without the Wellborn markup. We explain that up front and let you decide.

Signs Your Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Doors that won’t stay closed or hang crooked. This is almost always a worn hinge or a stripped screw hole in the face frame. Wood glue and toothpicks are a temporary patch; the real fix is re-boring or a hinge plate swap, which we do in place without ripping the cabinet out.
  • Drawers that catch, stick, or slam. Side-mount glides wear their nylon rollers flat after 8 – 12 years of Texas humidity cycling. Undermount glides last longer but the locking clips break if someone yanks past the stop. We see both weekly in Fort Worth.
  • Faces that peel along the bottom edge near the sink or dishwasher. Steam, standing water, and the constant Fort Worth heat cycle destroy thermofoil and laminate edges. Once the substrate swells, you replace the door or drawer front, not just the edge banding.
  • Cabinet boxes that sag under countertop load. This is structural: failed fasteners, a cut floor support, or water damage in the base. It’s not a hinge fix. We reframe the box or replace the run.
  • Soft-close pistons that stopped soft-closing. The little dampener cylinder inside the hinge cup dies after roughly 50,000 cycles. On a busy family kitchen, that’s five to seven years. Swapping the hinge takes us under a minute per door.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open kitchen and dining area after a remodel

A full Wellborn kitchen remodel in Fort Worth lands between $14,000 and $45,000. Smaller kitchens where we keep the footprint and replace doors, fronts, countertops, and hardware typically hit $9,000 – $20,000. Isolated cabinet work is cheaper: cabinet installation alone runs $4,000 – $13,000, countertops $2,000 – $6,500, backsplash $800 – $2,500, and a kitchen island $3,000 – $10,000.

What drives the range? Cabinet tier, linear feet of cabinetry, whether we’re moving plumbing or electrical, and your countertop choice. Cambria or Caesarstone runs more than a basic granite. Every quote we give in Fort Worth is a written line-item price before any work starts. You approve the number, and that’s the number on the invoice. No change orders, no surprise add-ons. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work for a full year: if it’s not done right, we make it right, in writing, on every project.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing a hinge, a glide, or a knob is something a careful homeowner can do with a screwdriver and twenty minutes. We’ll even tell you the right part number to order if you want to try it yourself. But if the face frame is split, the box is water-damaged, or you’re pulling cabinets off the wall, call us. That’s where DIY goes wrong in Fort Worth, and it’s usually a load-bearing or plumbing mess by the time we arrive. Luca’s rule: do the job the way you’d want it done in your own house. The work talks. We just back it up. Call (682) 841-6652 and we’ll walk you through what you’re looking at before we ever set foot in your kitchen.
